July 29, 2012 Sin of Omission

Hi Sixers and friends, clocks ticking away the days of summer. Hope all is well to enjoy the journey.

Today’s six follows Shelley’s confession to the secret she kept from her best friend Charlie with lover Jimmy Costigan present. A proud young woman, Shelley prays she hasn’t broken family ties forever. For relief she turns to basketball and the court behind Haven.

excerpt:

Two against one’s not fair just like back in Mobile, bussed to a better school, ignored by the cliques of girls in their perfect outfits; Shelley wanted to throw something. She ran to her room, stripping on the way to change into shorts, tee shirt, battered basketball shoes. The little girl from Mobile could buy new ones or get them free from a sponsor and outside she went through all the drills, thought about pro offers turned down.

She snapped a ball in Jimmy’s direction when he stepped out and he joined the game. They drank from the hose panting from the heat.

“I’ve had time to think and it’s not your color, Shelley ’cause I fell in love with you a long time ago; problem’s trust.

July 22, 2012 Sin of Omission

Hi sixers and friends. Here we go again with another SSSunday. I love your comments so jump in though I’m way down on the list this week.

When you have an interracial relationship, lots can go wrong and when you keep a major secret from your lover and his sister, your best friend, the lie is too much to bear. Here Shelley finally confesses. In this scene, Shelley speaks to her best friend Charlie, Jimmy’s sister. As athletes, the young women had been roommates at Northwestern U in Evanston, IL.

excerpt:

“Charlie, you accepted me as a friend and roommate but how would you feel if I were to marry your brother and bring color into the lily white home of your Aunt and Uncle. I envied your life and all the love they have for you.” She took another deep breath and reached for the twins in Jimmy’s arms who relinquished them so readily it made her pause and when he again refused to meet her eyes, her mind moved on. “I’ve committed a sin of omission by not coming clean. If you can find it in your hearts to forgive me, we can work it out. Ball’s in your court.”

July 15, 2012 Sin of Omission

Jimmy Costigan looks out through the crowd of family and friends on graduation day and sees in the distance Shelley Jackson, the black basketballplayer he’s loved for a long time. She sent him away when he left for his senior year at Roosevelt Architectural University in Chicago. Heartbroken yet determined to do well, Jimmy wins the major award at school. He runs toward Shelley and finds that what she’s holding is more than a gift.

excerpt:

Shelley held two tiny babies wearing knitted miniature cowboy hats over auburn hair. “When we made love, I said I’d been on the pill a long time and somehow, your Costigan sperm  bypassed my so-called protection.”

“Wait a minute, just wait a darn minute,” as in disbelief, he stepped closer and said, ““How come they’re so white?”

Grandma Jackson said “High yella, it’s called. where some are well done and some are medium rare. Not often, but some have white features and dark skin, like Shelley.”

Introducing my latest release Sin of Omission

Happy to be back to SSS this week, my friends. Had some health issues. Now perky doing a happy dance with my latest release,

Sin of Omission. A lie by any other name is still a lie. Shelley Jackson doesn’t think clearly when she keeps a secret from her lover, Jimmy Costigan and her best friend, Charlie.

blurb: Seems easy enough; Jimmy Costigan will deliver supplies to sister Charlie’s project Haven, a respite for the needy, and leave.

Instead, Shelley Jackson answers the door, says she needs him and soft-hearted Jimmy stays to protect the family seeking refuge from a sociopath; he doesn’t count on falling in love.

A twist of fate intervenes when Shelley keeps a secret that threatens to break apart the Costigans and her future. A mysterious client, Deanna Rose, enters Haven, victim of a savage beating under strange circumstances. Using Internet resources, Shelley digs in to find Ms. Rose has an unsavory past.

With the reputation and safety of Haven at stake, Shelley is at risk to lose everything … and everyone she cares about.
